Egyptian police have recently arrested hundreds of teenage boys in Cairo, reason being – sexual harassment. These boys, about 400 of them, at age of between 15 and 17, would be brought to a judge for flirting with girls. Police officials said that these teenagers would probably be fined in such cases.
According to sources, police have initiated the recent arrest after being pressurised by the Women’s rights groups. The groups have long been campaigned against sexual harassment and assault in Cairo. In one such case, a teenager was jailed one year for sexually assaulting two women. Another 17-year old teenage is facing trial for similar charge as well.
Sexually assault cases were relatively rare in Egypt, where there is no one law that defines sexual harassment. However, a man was sentenced to three years jail for groping a woman. During a Muslim holiday, 34 men had been arrested for allegedly assaulting women.
As global financial crisis seeps in, Russians are now cutting down their vodka production to avoid stockpiling. According to alcohol industry lobby and research group, Russia has been stockpiling its national drink six times higher at the start of the month than the same time a year ago. Reason being Russia could not sell off their vodka at the rate that they are producing; attributing to the impact of financial crisis. People are now more aware of their spending, including their expenses on drinks.
Effects of financial crisis have significant impact on alcohol poisoning as well, said Pavel Shapkin, president of the National Alcohol Association (NAA). NAA research organisation has reported an increase in alcohol intoxication, whereby people turned to cheaper vodka substitute.
There is now a need for the government to interfere in price of vodka, making it as affordable as possible to prevent drinkers from turning to anything containing alcohol content. There have been reports of drinkers turning to alcohol-containing cosmetics and cleaning agents. Widespread liver failure, jaundice and hepatitis could become serious if situation is left unattended.
For the first time, Internet addiction has been listed as a mental illness. The lead agency, General Hospital of Beijing Military Area, initiated the move by passing down standardisation. This standardisation shall be applied to the whole of China’s medical field in diagnosing of "Internet addiction".
According to experts, the new clinical standards define Internet addiction as a type of psychological and behavioral disorder caused by repeated and excessive use of Internet. Symptoms of such addiction include one that noted a daily continuous use of Internet reaching or exceeding six hours, in addition, with condition lasting three months or more.

This team of Isreali scientists has developed a software based on innate preferences that studies have shown for human faces. Professor Dani Lischinksi of Hebrew University in Jerusalem said that his team has fit in a set of mathematical model into data gathered from responses of people, whom were asked to rate each image given. Through this, the team is able to figure an optimised that one could have. Professor Lischinksi stressed that the software is not developed for everyone to look like stars in Hollywood; on the other hand, it served as a guide for effective make up application.
However, an interview with one woman revealed that she would not use the program as it might disappoint her by looking at her own perfect yet impossible look. The software also demands high qualit photographs to achieve desire optimisation, otherwise, the altered image might become distorted.
